Selling a tenanted property with a different agent?

Hi. My brother and I are currently letting a property we own between us, managed by an agent. We intend to sell it in the latter half of this year. The agent has advised that if a potential buyer is not an investor then we can give the tenants' two months notice to leave in order for the sale to go ahead. The tenants are aware of this and will have the decision on whether to leave early (before June) or to stay longer, up until the sale takes place, meaning that they would only have two months to find somewhere else. The question is whether - if the tenants stay in the property - we can sell the property with a different agent to the one who manages the tenancy. My concern is that if the tenants stay it makes sense for the current agent to manage the sale for us - but then they have an incentive to give us a less competitive rate. Ideally we want to use an agent who is going to take a smallish cut. The other thing I should mention is that I live 350 miles from the property!

  • Hey Dom. It's a pretty complicated process! We actually answered a question we've found on here before about selling a tenanted property. I'll drop the link below for you. If that doesn't help you at all, get in contact with me and I'll try my best to help. Regards, Jonathan Rolande :-)
