Contract with estate agent

I have signed a contract to market my house with them for 12 weeks and have just found out he has retired and sold his company to another estate agent. He hasn't informed us of these changes does this mean the contract has been broken as the retired estate agents signature is on my contract?

  • If you're not happy with the service of the "new" estate agent then in the first instance you can try asking them to terminate the contract. If you have only recently signed the contract there might be a 2 week cancellation period (unless you ticked the box to say you waive your right to cancel). If you think you've been treated unfairly and the estate agent are not interested in helping, then talk to the ombudsman who monitors/regulates them. That might be the National Association of Estate Agents or The Property Ombudsman.

  • I would also read through the contract to see if there were any clauses stating that the terms would still stand should such a situation occur.
