Reporting this answer: If you are buying with a mortgage then there will certainly need to be a survey. That may, or may not, be sufficient: it will not cover all the problems that may be hidden, it will only serve to protect the mortgage providers interest. On the other hand an independent survey may list a lot of trivial or obvious 'faults' and be so full of caveats regarding things that could not be inspected or need the opinion of another expert that you may do as well to form your own opinion.
