The five-bedroom concrete-built home in south Liverpool was a favourite on the Channel 4 TV series. But would you live there?

Looking to buy in the Liverpool area with a budget north of £1m? Your timing could be just right, as a one-of-a-kind award-winning home has found its way onto the market.

Back in 2015, Westmorland – the name of the modern house which sits two miles outside Liverpool city centre – was shortlisted in the Grand Designs House of the Year awards.

It also scooped the 2015 Regional Winner prize in the RIBA Awards, which is presented to the ‘best new house’ designed by a UK architect.

What’s the home like?

The five-bedroom home, inspired by 1960s Brutalism and California glamour, is made of solid concrete with a grey-brick façade.

It’s formed of two interconnecting rectangular sections which are joined by a spectacular double-height hallway.

In one section is a large open-plan living space, kitchen, study, four bedrooms (one of which is ensuite) and family bathroom.

In the other is a sitting room, utility room, toilet, master bedroom (with dressing room and bathroom) and double garage.

A staircase, constructed from smoked oak and steel, lies at the centre of the home. It is set against a six-metre high window which floods the space with natural light.

There’s also a roof terrace offering views of the mature gardens – a remnant from the French Embassy which formerly occupied the home’s third-of-an-acre plot.

Construction on the home began in 2010 and was completed in 2013.

Where is it?

Westmorland sits on Fulwood Park which is nestled between Sefton Park and the banks of the River Mersey, in the affluent suburb of Aigburth. It's two miles south of Liverpool city centre.

How much is it on for?

The property is on the market for £1.2m with agent, The Modern House. The price tag is more than double the £522,040 average for Fulwood Park – a private estate which contains a large number of Victorian villas and listed homes.
