Bettesworths is a family owned and operated company, successful in selling and valuing hotels, pubs and commercial property since 1943. It was 70 years ago in 1943, when Maureen and Bernard Bettesworth established the firm of Bettesworths in Torquay. They had happy memories of their honeymoon in the seaside town in 1939. Maureen Bettesworth soon established herself as a leading light in the male dominated world of commercial property by becoming the first lady auctioneer and hotel agent in the UK. She was subsequently the first lady Chair of the Devon and Cornwall Branch of The Valuers' Institution ; this was amalgamated later with the Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers, which in 1999 was taken over by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
