37a Bradford Street was constructed as a annex to the adjoining The Bawn in 1901. Built at the time of the arts and crafts movement the property has considerable character with ornate features which include original windows with brass window locks. The property was originally used as a doctors surgery until the mid 20th century when it became a residential dwelling. In recent years the now bungalow has had a new roof (2014) and lapsed planning permission was granted for it to be converted into two dwellings.

Internally the property is in need of modernisation throughout but has some fine architectural features which include a 18ft long living room with central fireplace and high ceilings. Outside there is a hardstanding area with gates to the street. You could comfortably park four vehicles with established shrubs and borders.

The north Essex town of Braintree and it's more residential neighbour, Bocking, have a long and fascinating history rivalling that of any ancient English borough. From the 14th century, the woolen cloth trade brought prosperity to Bocking in particular, and the development of bays and says in the 16th century ensured the township's continued success in the industry.

Bradford Street was identified with the woolen cloth trade, when the name of Bocking described a distinct type of cloth, and large fortunes were made by famous Essex families who owed their prosperity to their mercantile efforts in Bradford Street. By the C17 at least 7 cloth halls are recorded, where weekly sales of yarn and cloth took place. Many of the wool traders were involved in the management of the Inns and Public houses.

A number of surviving buildings reflect this prosperity, and Bradford Street amply justifies its title as "a street of outstanding architectural and historic importance".
