The Vendor's View

Designed and built in the early 1930’s, 'Strebor House' was conceived to be a unique property with the Hollywood ‘wow-factor’ for a famous local resident.

At the time, Stroud & Roberts were known as the foremost builders in the area and both built adjacent homes for themselves in the newly developing Thurston Park. No expense was spared and Roberts’ house was created in the impressive ‘Art Deco’ style of the time. From the three slim pillars holding up the front façade, to the stunning 24-foot-high dining hall ceiling, the house was designed to impress. Many of the original features survive, including the original deep gold papered minstrel gallery, the curved walls and the sandwiched horse hair in the semi-circular lounge windows, which change colour with the passing of the sun. The house is a truly unique design, with nothing remotely like it in the area.
The name ‘Strebor’ is in fact, Roberts reversed and the main gate to the driveway is the original gate to Thurston Park, when it was indeed, a park.

The house has been in the same ownership since 1976, when the current owner’s wife set foot in the dining hall and gazed upwards, the house was sold in that split-second. We have been very happy here, lovely neighbours, a quiet private road, a sun trap of a rear garden, the railway station on your doorstep and not forgetting a wonderful, unique family home.
