The Local Area

Whitehurst Avenue is built on part of the old Brampton Park Field. It is named after the Whitehurst Family who once owned the manor of Ickleford and who granted land to support Skinners' alms-houses and the Girls' Charity School. The houses in the road were built by local company John Ray in the 1930s.

It is a fabulous location to bring up a family as it is near to many good schools and including Strathmore infants school, Our Lady’s Catholic primary school and The Priory secondary school which is getting excellent results year on year, other schools include the ever popular Hitchin Boys School & Hitchin Girls School. Next to the schools there is Hitchin Rugby club and the King George V recreation ground which is packed with families on a Sunday morning enjoying the children’s rugby and the Sunday league football.
