Description

The Old Vicarage is an imposing Victorian house, located in the popular village of Stow Longa with a 13th Century Church, benefiting from excellent commuter access to Cambridge, with mainline stations at nearby Huntingdon and St Neots offering fast, regular trains to London Kings Cross. Kimbolton is just two miles away offering excellent amenities and the highly-regarded Kimbolton School.

The property offers five well-appointed bedrooms, three with newly-fitted en suite shower rooms, and a family bathroom. The ground floor consists of a dining room and drawing room, both with French doors to the garden, a snug/family room, study and a kitchen breakfast room with separate utility room and access to the boiler room. There are two vehicular access points, to the North and South West of the property, one boasting a long tree-lined sweeping drive. The substantial outside space boasts a well-maintained formal lawn with patio and mature trees, garage, coach house, stores, an orchard with lapsed planning permission to build a detached five-bedroom house, and an Old School House with workshop which has the potential to become a self-contained annexe with its own front door (subject to the usual planning consents). There is also a separate paddock of 2.2 acres available by separate negotiation.

This beautifully-renovated Victorian home sits in the heart of the pretty Cambridgeshire village of Stow Longa 8 miles West of Huntingdon, 10 miles North West of St Neots and 2 miles North of Kimbolton. It has been home to the current owners for four years. ‘When we first viewed the house, we were struck by its welcoming and warm atmosphere, despite it being in a terrible state of disrepair. By enhancing many of its period features and adding an air of modern luxury, we’ve renovated it from a total wreck into a comfortable home full of character. As a family, we chose the area for its sense of rurality without being isolated, its distance to the excellent nearby Kimbolton School, the vibrant village community and its easily commutable distance from London.’ say the owners. The area is well-served by schools, both state and independent and access to the A1 (M) is under five miles away.

‘The sense of community in Stow Longa is strong and there’s plenty to get involved in for all age groups, ’ explain the owners. The property’s central village location means that everything is on the doorstep, however once on the grounds you feel a wonderful sense of privacy and tranquility. Kimbolton, which is only two miles away, has everything needed for day-to-day living whilst nearby Huntingdon and St Neots offer more extensive amenities.

‘From the large entrance hall to the snug, the house has a very welcoming atmosphere and always feels homely and cosy. We’ve renovated it to function perfectly as a family home and whoever buys it will be moving into a ready-made home. We’ve enjoyed the outside space immensely but haven’t developed it to its full potential. With several outbuildings and extensive grounds there’s huge scope to create something really amazing.’

‘We absolutely love the kitchen; we made the large open-plan space out of five smaller rooms. There’s space for cooking, dining, relaxing and entertaining. It’s the heartbeat of the house, the centre of the action. We fitted a bespoke handmade kitchen and have just added patio doors to make it even more multi-functional.’

‘The grounds are beautiful, especially the orchard with plum, apple, pear and walnut trees – we’ve planted wild flowers here which look really beautiful. The area has lots of working farms and stunning walks through open countryside – there’s endless exploring to be enjoyed.’

‘We have fond memories of many family gatherings held here; Birthday and Christmas celebrations especially – it’s an amazing house for entertaining.’

‘We will miss the peace and tranquillity of the plot and the village, and of course the house itself. Unfortunately for us, work commitments are dictating that we relocate.’
