Outside decking extends around the perimeter of The Ark connecting its garden platform and jetty together. The Ark is heated via oil. The vendor has provided comments of the history of the boat "Originally built in 1898 and is a Humber Keel Barge. She is a "dumb" barge which means she never had an engine or sails; instead she was rafted together with up to 11 others and then the raft was manoeuvred with tugs. She carried Coal on the Humber and Grain on the Orwell before becoming the Clubhouse for Stoke Saling Club. The lower hull has been shuttered and then lined with granite enriched concrete. The upper hull and original decks have been spray foam insulated on the inside. The outer walls in the hull are damp and heat insulated with plenty of spaces left for air circulation. Downstairs the stud/interior walls are clad with fire retardant flooring boards. The decks have been hot tar sealed on the outside and approx. 64sqm of decking and balcony constructed over that on a metal box frame. Proceeding out of Princes Street turn left onto Civic Drive at the roundabout take the second exit onto Bridge Street at the following roundabout take the first exit to continue onto Bridge Street. In just under half a mile take the first exit onto Hawes Street then continue across the following roundabout onto Hawes Street. Take the third exit at the roundabout onto Wherstead Road. In just under a mile take the first take the first exit onto the Strand and proceed for approximately four and a half miles until the left turning onto Pill Mill Road. Follow the road to the riverbank which leads you to the Butt and Oyster then follow the National Trust Walk to the right and The Ark can be found on the left hand side.
