If its current configuration is a little too individual then a full refurbishment would produce the home of your dreams. After all, any house is only bricks and mortar and can be altered to fit; the one thing you can never change is the location and if it is peace, countryside and views that you want, look no further.

Positioned up a small lane that winds around a hillside outside the popular sought after village of Maeshafn, this home manages the difficult trick of feeling remote while remaining within a few minutes’ drive of Mold. To the front or more accurately the ‘lane’ side of the house is a large driveway with two entrances, which in fact is very grand, but needs some attention to make it so again.
Having the in and out entrances removes the embarrassment of manoeuvring cars when people are watching! There’s loads of parking spaces and also a large double garage which sits beside this area and a further large parking area can also be found at the far end of the home, adjacent to which is a brick built storage shed.

The front door lies in a porch standing proud from the gable end of the building and which also forms a corridor leading towards the first of this home’s unusual features.

At the end of this corridor, which under foot is a quarry stone tiled floor, a door opens into a large square bedroom with an array of fitted wardrobes against the inner wall. A set of sliding patio doors open directly onto the lawn, overlooking one of the most stunning panoramas that makes this home so special. In the centre of one wall is an almost Arabian Knights style archway, opening into a vanity area containing various storage units and a small hand basin. Two further doors sit at either end of this, one revealing a lavatory and the other a walk-in shower cubicle.

Adjacent to the front door, a second door leads to the inner hallway. This very attractive room features the solid wood block flooring that runs almost throughout the ground floor. This in turn compliments the wooden staircase to the right and also the dark tongue and groove ceiling. All this wood produces a very period feel and puts me in mind of one of the classier bbc costume dramas; but if Father Brown popped his head in it would be no surprise. However, the wood does not make the space feel at all gloomy, thanks in no small part to the large aperture in the main wall opposite the front door, opening into the dining room with its large French doors out onto the patio.

Immediately to our left is a bathroom. This is taking the period look a step too far and entering the realms of needing replacement, though all the basics are here. It currently features a pedestal hand basin, lavatory and corner mounted shower cubicle with a mains water fed shower.

Next door to here is a large bedroom, where the attractive wood floor continues and the large picture window overlooks the main driveway.

Beside this bedroom door are two conjoined arches, one leading into the kitchen. Overlooking the delightful side garden and further patio this has a homely feel to it. It could however, benefit from something of a makeover as it is to be honest, rather dated and a bit tired. It also shows its age by failing to provide some of the more technological aids that have become the norm in today’s homes. For example, there is no plumbing suitable for a dish washer although what is present is functional and would be quite adequate in the short term, while a program of renovation was undertaken. Leading from here is a secondary kitchen or more accurately, what my Nana would call a scullery, housing a further sink, free standing electric cooker, storage cupboards, washing machine and the oil fired central heating boiler.

The second arch from the hall leads into the formal dining room. This, with its continuation of the wooden flooring exudes comfort and at the risk of sounding clichéd, class. The huge French windows with their commanding view over the garden simply add to the overall ambiance and open the mind as to what this home could become.

The remaining door off the hall takes us into the lounge, where the double aspect picture windows reveal a view over the garden and to the hills beyond that is little short of breathtaking. This is a large and comfortable room, made to feel even bigger by the way that the views include the observer in the vista. Wood block parquet flooring provides a hard-wearing, practical and attractive appearance, while we are kept cosy by the large traditional wood burning stove. Whether gazing out over new born lambs frolicking in the fields, or the grass slowly disappearing beneath falling snowflakes, this is a fabulous vantage point from which to observe life at its best!

Climbing the beautiful wooden staircase from the hall, we pass a set of louvre doors which, in the absence of any accessible loft space provides a cavernous space for storage of all the ‘stuff’ from Christmas trees to rarely used tents that every home seems to amass eventually.

Arriving on the landing we are greeted by another set of louvre doors (which become something of a popular theme throughout), this time revealing a linen cupboard. Next comes the door to the family bathroom. This, like much of the rest of the home is of its time, as shown by the avocado green suite of pedestal hand basin, lavatory, bidet and bath with electric shower over.

On the far side of the bathroom are two further sets of louvre doors, one opening into a large airing cupboard containing the hot water tank and the other, surprisingly, revealing a small bedroom. This is most definitely a single room, quite long and narrow with a window to one end, it provides a cosy nest – we said this home had an unusual layout!

The other door off the landing takes us into the master bedroom and here, space is simply not an issue. A large double bed with twin bedside tables and three chests of drawers still leave masses of floor space but where, I hear you ask, is the wardrobe? A door leads through into the small dressing room, where fitted wardrobes occupy one complete wall and offer sufficient space to satisfy the most fashion conscious. But the real crowning glory of this bedroom comes in the form of a massive set of sliding patio windows giving access to the large balcony overlooking the gardens and surrounding hills. This is the sort of view that would make being ill and lying in bed worthwhile. Well maybe not, but it would certainly soften the blow.
