A well travelled house!

I've lived in this house for 13 years and loved every single moment. We've changed and matured together and we've become really good friends. When I first moved in, she felt a little tired and neglected but with a little love, care and creative thought that soon changed. She is now vibrant, happy and has a strong personality! I have had lots of fun renovating this house using reclaimed wood from gymnasiums, railways and even planks from old ships.

The garden has also transformed over the years, enjoying the sun well into the afternoon. There are three fruit trees, two apples and a pear that have been growing since 2007 and produce the most incredible tasting fruit. We constructed a tiled seating area at the end of the garden which is gorgeous to sit and bask in the afternoon sunshine. There are two raised planting beds which have grown courgettes, peas, spinach, kale and host permanent herbs such as trailing rosemary and thyme. The wall at the end of the garden is the original city boundary and is listed, which transforms into a beautiful wall of pink roses in the summer. There is a resident toad who lives in the wall at the end of the garden and has been there ever since I can remember. If you listen carefully, you can hear him calling out for mates during the summer months.

Initially I shared the space with 4 friends where we had lots of fun and enjoyed many parties. The house was often a hive of activity, frequently hosting samba dancers and drummers, local musicians and theatre performers for the Picton Street Winter Fayre and the Arts Trail.

In August 2011 I decided that the house should have a makeover! 2 weeks were then spent up a scaffold hand painting The Bird House'. It was during this time I met, played guitar with, sang with, drank lots of tea with, chatted an awful lot with, and subsequently made very good friends with my neighbours from Montpelier. It was then that I discovered and fully appreciated the wonderful community I had moved into.

Not long after the mural was completed I started to open the large window at the front of the house and sell my artwork. It was called the Window Shop'. Lots of people stopped to say hello and talk about the painting on the front.

I like to think of the house being very well-travelled. Since having her face painted, she has featured in many magazines, newspapers and social media accounts all over the world as well as locally here in Bristol.

The house has been enjoyed and appreciated by guests from all over the world during our Air B and B adventures, including Russia, America, Norway, Taiwan and Australia.

Finally we have made our little family here and I feel it's time for the house to have a new guardian to love and enjoy her as much as I have done.

I've always felt this house has looked after me as I have looked after her and has always been welcoming space to come home to, often with the sun shining on her face.
