Crumlin is a small town situated in the county borough of Caerphilly, in south Wales, and is only 22 miles away from Cardiff. The Crumlin Viaduct used to be a permanent fixture in the town, and featured in the film Arabesque, starring Gregory Peck and Sophia Loren. It was the highest viaduct in the whole of Great Britain, but it was eventually demolished due to its deterioration.

Caerphilly Castle is the 2nd largest castle in Great Britain, and was created by Gilbert de Clare during the 13th century. It is well renown for its concentric castle defences, large gatehouses and for being surrounded by large artificial lakes that were described as “the most elaborate water defences in all Britain”. It famously featured in Merlin, a BBC TV series.

About an hours drive away from Crumlin, The Crymlyn Bog can be found, which is a nature reserve that has the largest proportion of lowland fen in all of Wales. This destination is popular with nature enthusiasts, as there is a huge variety of different plants and swamps, as well as birds who take their refuge there.

Since the Crumlin Viaduct was demolished, there has been no railway services in the town, but there is one in Newbridge, which is less than a mile away. From Newbridge, there are trains that go to Cardiff, which is only a 30 minute journey. Cardiff is also where you can find the closest airport.

The most popular shopping destination for Crumlin residents is Blackwood shopping centre, which is just 4.6 miles away, where you can find shops such as Poundland, Super Drug and Iceland, as well as a few other independent retailers. There is also a Nisa in Crumlin, which is handy for grocery and food shopping.
