Sheffield is a city located in South Yorkshire, and has a longstanding history with industrialism and steelworks. Sheffield boasts a multicultural society, with a large student population, and it is one of the safest and friendliest cities in the United Kingdom. Sheffield has seen a huge amount of redevelopment in the 21st century, and its gross value has shot up by 60% since 1997, with the economy increasing each year by around 5%.
While Sheffield may not be the most attractive city in the UK, thanks largely to its industrial history, it still manages to feature a large amount of green space. There are a number of rivers that flow through Sheffield, such as the River Don, the River Rivelin, and Porter Brook. Unfortunately, this does make the area susceptible to flooding during some periods of the year. The Peak District National Park can be found to the south of the city, and was first founded in 1951, making it the UK’s first national park. Encompassing 555 square miles, the park offers greenery in abundance, with its boundaries reaching Derbyshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Staffordshire, and West Yorkshire, as well as South Yorkshire.
