Introducing Old Custom House, an Exclusive Gated Community.
Old Custom House was purpose built for Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise and officially opened in 1982. Located in the heart of Dovercourt, the offices played a vital role in this maritime town where it also undertook important Customs functions for the whole of the UK.
Old Custom House provided accommodation for teams including the Mobile Task Force and administration for all associated freight control functions at nearby Parkeston Quay and Harwich Navyard. The building also contained a strong room which was used to store contraband seized from nearby ports.

The area

Harwich and Dovercourt is a popular (and growing) seaside town in North Essex. The local community has a host of established amenities including schools, sports clubs, train station and the delightful ‘Dovercourt Bay’ a blue flag beach perfect for coastal strolls whilst observing the to ing and fro ing of the vessels from nearby Harwich International Port and Felixstowe.
Historic Harwich is located on the tip of the peninsula and overlooks the River Stour to the North (including the Suffolk border), and the North Sea to the South. Harwich itself is a town steeped in history including the Redoubt Fort, Treadwheel Crane and many other historic buildings including the former home of the Master of the Mayflower, Christopher Jones.
In recent years Harwich has developed a reputation as a fine culinary destination with many and varied eateries.
The location

Dovercourt has good transport links including regular trains from Dovercourt station (just half a mile from Old Custom House). Transit time to London Liverpool Street is approximately 1.5 hours. Old Custom House is located within yards of Dovercourt Town Centre.
