Birches Tye

Delivering the perfect setting for a balanced modern day lifestyle

One of the largest and oldest villages in Cambridgeshire, Burwell is teeming with history, and offers a friendly community atmosphere and modern amenities. Birches Tye gives easy access to the conveniences of the village as well as being minutes away from the scenic countryside that surrounds the development. Enjoy walks down charming lanes and country paths exploring the diverse wildlife renowned in the region whilst the exciting city of Cambridge and the bustling town of Newmarket are only a short drive away.

Within walking distance of Birches Tye three village public houses can be found, as well as a post office, bakery, bank, boutique shops and a Co-Operative - perfect for those essentials. With community activities ranging from art groups, gardening clubs and the WI to Burwell Sports Centre offering fitness classes, children’s activities and fully-equipped sports hall, there is something for everyone in Burwell.

Burwell’s historic past is evident throughout the village from the mix of architectural styles ranging from thatched-roof stone cottages and Georgian style properties to the iconic 19th century windmill complete with museum. Burwell is also home to one of the most opulent churches in all of Cambridgeshire. Constructed mostly in the 15th century in perpendicular style by the same architect responsible for King’s College chapel in Cambridge, St Mary’s church exudes grandeur with octagonal towers, elegant stain-glass windows and carved ceiling.

Leisure

A short drive from Burwell will take you to the town of Newmarket where a plethora of independent boutiques, high-street stores and restaurants can be found. As well as retail therapy, Newmarket offers great days out; renowned for its breeding and racing of thoroughbred horses, the town is home to two racecourses and the National Horseracing Museum. The city of Cambridge can be reached in around 20 minutes where you can find winding lanes brimming with historic architecture and charming shops as well as being home to some of the best museums in the country. In addition, the city is the fastest-growing economic region in the UK with employment increasing largely due to the Science Park and Biomedical Campus. From punting down the River Cam, dining at Michelin star restaurants, or just enjoying one of the many open spaces, you will find Cambridge a vibrant and inspiring place to visit.
