Holding Deposit A holding deposit (capped at one weeks rent) is a sum of money paid to a letting agent or landlord to reserve a property and make sure nobody else gets to view it. The property is taken off the market to allow you to formally apply for the property.
If you pay a holding deposit you're guaranteeing you'll take up the tenancy. When the landlord or agents accept it they're guaranteeing they'll let the property to you.
