DAWSONS is the longest established independent estate agency in Argyll and has been providing property marketing and letting management services throughout the West Highlands since it was founded in 1974. The firm is proud of its independence from institutional and solicitor ownership, thus avoiding the inevitable conflicts of interest that can arise from these associations, such as acting for both parties in a transaction. Similarly, financial services are not offered by the firm. DAWSONS is quite simply a specialist agency dedicated to the sale and letting of its clients’ properties. In addition to its presence on all of the major internet property portals, market penetration is complemented by its membership of the Mayfair Office marketing group which is based in central London and plays an important role in obtaining valuable publicity for its clients’ properties through its associations with national press property editors and feature writers.

The Isle of Bute is the most easily accessible island in this area, only 7 miles from the mainland by frequent ferry service to Wemyss Bay (35 mins) where a rail connection provides direct link to Glasgow (45mins). Both Glasgow and Prestwick Airports are about an hour’s drive from the ferry terminal. A smaller car ferry operates from the north of the island at Rhubodach to Colintraive with a 5 minute crossing to mainland Argyll. There are good educational facilities on the island with a modern joint campus in Rothesay incorporating a pre-five unit, primary and secondary departments and Argyll College. There are two further primary schools; one in Port Bannatyne and one in Rothesay. Two nurseries are available offering childcare. Private child minding is available too. There is also good healthcare provision locally with a local health centre, hospital and maternity unit. A wide range of recreational activities are available including golf, sailing, walking, kayaking, fishing, horse riding, cycling etc. Sports and leisure facilities include a leisure pool, gym, all weather sports pitches and a cinema. Yachting and cruising are also popular and the pontoons and mooring facilities at Rothesay Harbour and the Marina at Port Bannatyne are well supported by locals and tourists alike. Festivals and events are held annually on the island including the increasingly popular ButeFest.
