Location
Ruyton XI Towns, or more properly, Ruyton-of-the-Eleven-Towns, has the longest village name in England and almost one of the longest village streets. The unusual name came into being in 1301 when 11 of the neighbouring townships were united into the one manor and now Ruyton is a thriving village community.
The long street winds up from the narrow stone bridge over the River Perry, along the side of a red sandstone hill. Many of the houses are built of this sandstone, as is the church with its battlemented tower which dates from around the time of the Norman Conquest. In the churchyard there are the last traces of a castle built in the early 14th century.
Educational facilities and amenities on hand are of an excellent standard as you would expect from a long established family community. Oswestry and Shrewsbury are speedily reached along the A5.
Directions
From Oswestry join the A5 travelling towards Shrewsbury. Proceed along, bypassing West Felton, until reaching the crossroads with the B4397 signposted Ruyton XI Towns. Turn left and continue along until entering the village. Proceed through the village along Church Street until Grove Court can be seen on the left hand side. Turn onto the driveway where the property will be found in the bottom left hand corner identified by our for sale board.
