Lovingly renovated and redecorated over the years, this substantial one-bedroom apartment is immediately impressive. Formed from the top floor of a grand Victorian townhouse in Central Hove, it has the generous proportions of the period and is filled with natural light from east to west and from above, via a vast atrium skylight. You can see the sea between the rooftops across the local landscape with the South Downs in the distance, so this property really is the crowning glory of this house.
With the fashionable shops, restaurants, cafes and bars of Western Road just minutes away, as well as two commuter stations and the peace and green of St Ann's Well Gardens; this apartment would suit professionals, commuters and investors alike.

Why you'll like it:
Tree lined and flanked by elegant townhouses, Cambridge Road rises north from Western Road and Brunswick. Built during the 19th Century, these substantial homes were intended as one dwelling but have since been converted into spacious apartments such as this one. Brunswick Town has long been heralded as one of the most sought-after locations in the city, and it is easy to see why. Striking period architecture, the seaside location, excellent commuter links and a vibrant café culture all add to its appeal, and this property sits in its midst.
From the grand entrance, a neat communal hallway and stairwell steps up through the building, past stained-glass windows to your door. This in turn opens to an internal stairwell which rises double height up to the atrium skylight, creating a bright and welcoming space to come home to. Tall walls create a gallery space and it would be possible to add a mezzanine level office if desired – and had been considered by the current owner. This area adds to the sense of space within the apartment and is a wonderful feature.
Stepping up to the galleried landing, it is clear this apartment has been beautifully maintained by those with a keen eye for colour and interiors. Calico creams and delicate dove greys have been paired with white woodwork and soft wool carpets which flow into the principal rooms.
Peacefully positioned to the rear of the building, the bedroom is a generous double room with bespoke timber clad storage and a large wardrobe which can stay. Even with a king size bed and freestanding furnishings, the floor space is not compromised, and the sea views are a joy to wake up to. From this elevated position, you can see across the chimney stacks of Brunswick Town, taking your line of sight to the east towards the sea and Brighton's newest landmark the i360, rising head and shoulders above the rest.
Next door, the living room shares this sunny aspect, and is again incredibly peaceful with light filtering in through a tall sash during the morning. There is ample space for relaxation, work and entertaining in here, and there are two feature, timber clad walls within the alcoves which echo the storage in the bedroom.
Crossing the landing, you pass the bathroom which is modern and spacious with white wall tiles and a shower over the contemporary bath suite. From here, a large airing cupboard is useful for all kinds of storage and also houses the combination gas boiler.
Sitting on the westerly side of the property, the kitchen is well-equipped with plenty of storage in white gloss cabinetry. This is complemented by solid oak worktops, and while the oven and gas hob have been integrated for you, space has been left for a washing machine, slim-line dishwasher and a tall fridge freezer which may be negotiable with the sale. A wide picture window frames elevated views to the west which take you again down to the sea, but also across the city to the rolling hills of the South Downs – reminding you just how perfectly positioned the city is between the coast and the countryside.
Uniquely, this apartment has a dining room adjoining the kitchen – but it could have any number of uses as a work space or an occasional bedroom if needed. A Velux window brings in a lovely afternoon light and there is storage space within the eaves. While the eaves are technically owned by the freeholder (as is often the case with lofts and leasehold properties), it is only this apartment which has access, so they are incredibly useful for storage.

Agent's thoughts:
Beautifully bright and deceptively spacious, this apartment is incredibly well-presented, and it is utterly peaceful for somewhere so central as it is elevated above the hubbub of the city.

Owner's secret
"I have lived here for the last 33 years and have loved it so much there was never a need to leave. It was the space and light which sold the flat to me when I bought it – in particular the internal stairwell with its fabulous skylight – and I have enjoyed renovating and making the space my own over the years. The views are fantastic as you can see both the sea and the South Downs, and Brunswick Town is a fabulous community to live amongst. You are also right in the middle of both Brighton and Hove's social centres, and a few minutes from the beach, so you couldn't find a better location to live in this city!"

Where it is:
Shops: Local 1 min walk, city centre 10 min walk
