About this property

This light-filled two-bedroom apartment lies along on the white-stuccoed and porticoed roads of Pimlico. Arranged across the ground floor, its rooms are defined by soaring ceilings, handsome moulding and large sash tripartite windows. The leafy green spaces of St Georges Square lie just over the road with Warwick Square and Vincent Square also nearby. Pimlico station is a few minutes' walk away for connections across London.

    Setting the Scene

Designed by Thomas Cubitt in the 1840s, Belgrave Road was intended as genteel housing for the rising upper middle classes. It was commissioned by Richard Grosvenor, 2nd Marquess of Westminster, in 1834.

Cubitt was tasked with transforming the only sparsely inhabited and still relatively rural swathe of Pimlico into desirable dwellings. Built in his instantly recognisable, timeless neo-classical style, the porch-lined streets were laid out with clean symmetry in mind, and were interspersed with shady squares.

    The Grand Tour

The building sits behind traditional wrought-iron railings. Its communal timber front door is set within a deep porch accented with dentil motif and flanked by smooth Doric columns. Beyond lies a shared wainscot-lined hall, where this ground-floor apartment's private entrance is sited.

A hallway with convenient storage leads onto a large open-plan living space. The room is bright, with light pouring in from the considerable sash windows at the front of the plan. Centred around the original marble fireplace, floating bookshelves flank the window. The kitchen lies on two sides of the room, its L-shaped cabinetry painted a sage green.

To the rear of the plan is the principal bedroom, with its pristine en suite bathroom. Here, sash windows on two aspects lend an airiness to the bedroom, while storage space is maximised by mirror-fronted built-in cabinetry. Its walls are washed in pale tones of 'French Gray' by Farrow and Ball while box panelling and cast-iron radiators lend the space an elegant feel.

A second bedroom lies along the hall, with large sash window and another cast-iron radiator. It also has convenient built-in bespoke cabinetry. A smart guest bathroom lies across the hall and has a walk-in shower.

    Out and About

Belgrave Road is one of Pimlico’s finest residential streets and is characterised by some of central London’s most beautiful townhouses, charming cafés and independent shops. Particularly popular among the selection of cafés in close proximity is bakery Little Bread Pedlar. Beyond Belgrave Street is an array of pubs, restaurants and shops that stretch up towards Belgravia, Victoria and Sloane Square.

There is a wonderful village-like feel to the area, partly due to its peaceful streets dotted with green spaces; among these is beautiful St George’s Square, which lies mere minutes away on foot. This leads directly onto the Pimlico Garden and the Shrubbery, a peaceful park directly overlooking the River Thames. Slightly further west is Ranelagh Gardens, an extensive 18th-century set of gardens and lawns, home to the Chelsea Flower Show. Apartment flat is within easy reach of Battersea Park, as well as the amenities of Chelsea and Belgravia.

There are outstanding transport links within close proximity: The Underground is available at Pimlico (Victoria line) and Sloane Square (Circle and District lines). Victoria station also provides mainline rail services, including direct trains to Gatwick Airport.
