Seller's view

We purchased Flat 9 in 2013, having downsized from our former family home, also in Finchampstead. While owning a property in Somerset, we also needed to maintain a home in the south-east as my daughter remained at school in Reading, and our professional careers were centred here. At first, Flat 9 was not what we were thought we were looking for; we sought a flat or apartment within walking distance of Wokingham town centre. However, having looked at numerous properties the significant advantages of North Court became apparent. Principally, space and tranquility.

The flat with its high ceilings and beautiful outlook on both aspects gave us a feeling of immense space and light and being located on the 1st floor, security. Our balcony space was complemented by shared access to substantial patio and gardens, experienced by our friends and family at various garden parties. There was no concern or friction over parking for ourselves or visitors. Our generous lofted garage provided storage capacity for many items removed from our 4-bedroom house. The gym room (green room) accommodated our gym equipment, which like other residents, we were happy to share. A bike shed for our numerous bicycles, not needing to clutter our garage.

Always our arrivals at North Court felt very prestigious, consistent with its fascinating history as the home of the Bramwell- Booths, founders of the Salvation Army. The gravel driveup to the property, through well- kept lawns and lined with shrubs and large specimen trees always a welcoming and impressive sight. However, the ground rent is very modest by comparison because it is run by a Management Company of the owners who are prudent in their expenditure.
During our time at North Court we travelled extensively for business and pleasure and the flat is a perfect ‘lock-up and leave’ for those with a busy agenda or frequent commitments elsewhere. With all external decoration, maintenance and gardening catered for, there were no accumulated chores to suffer on our return! The location suited our requirements for easy road access to Heathrow airport, M4 or M3 access to the West Country and multiple rail routes into London.

North Court was and is a very welcome escape from the busy activity of a vibrant se. The nature is an absolute delight with frequent visits from deer, owls and other wildlife. We also loved the immediate walking/running/ cycling access to the The Ridges and Blackwater Lakes Nature Reserve. Living there we were also able to keep our own horse at a livery stable along White Horse Lane. Just a short walk around the corner is the Greyhound pub/ coffee house and Sports club in Finchampstead village or walk off road via Wick lane to California Crossroads shops, doctors, pharmacy, restaurants etc.

After the epidemic, retirement led to most of our time being spent in Somerset, but not wishing to part with the flat we have let it for 2.5 years. It proved a very popular let with both tenants over that period engaged within a matter of days of advertising.

Recalling all this, I am wondering why we actually want to sell it! Reluctantly, I have to admit that our lives are more centred in the South West now and we can’t foresee a reason to retain a base in Finchampstead. But if that should change in future, I would definitely regret the loss of the unique property which is Flat 9. North Court.
