The Location
Golant is a tranquil and picturesque waterside village situated on the westerly bank of the River Fowey, just a short distance upstream from Fowey Harbour. This idyllic and unspoilt village is a haven for many species of beautiful wildlife and it is formally designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Located on one of the most scenic stretches of the river, Golant is the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful part of Cornwall. Unsurprisingly, it is very popular with water-sports enthusiasts, whether that be keen sailors, kayakers, sup or this who enjoy just boating up and down the river. Within the village is the Paddle Cornwall River Encounters, who offer excellent tours of the river, waterspouts lessons and equipment hire. The river takes you upstream to the picture perfect village of Lerryn and beyond to the town of Lostwithiel. Just a short trip downstream from Golant is Penmarlam, Polruan and Fowey. The village is also home to an excellent pub, The Fishermans Arms.
Fowey Harbour is renowned for its excellent sailing facilities and its boat building heritage and so throughout the summer, it is always bustling with numerous interesting river and sea-going vessels alike. Fowey itself offers numerous excellent restaurants, pubs and hotels, as well as boutique shops. The town also plays host to a number of major cultural and maritime events including the renowned Daphne Du Maurier Literary Festival and Fowey Royal Regatta.
The South West Coastal Path offers mile upon mile of spectacular walks, whilst taking in some of the most breathtaking views on Cornwall’s magnificent coastline.
Golant is also easily accessed, being just 20 minutes drive from the A30 at Bodmin. There are mainline railway stations at nearby Lostwithiel, Par and Bodmin, with numerous daily trains going to London Paddington. Newquay International Airport also offers flights to London, as well as other destinations around the UK and across Europe.
Outside
A sloping entrance drive ascends up to a large communal parking area, where there are designated parking spaces for each of the houses. There are two entrance doors into the property, one being from the same level as the parking area and a second is via a flight of steps to the side. At the top of the stairs is an paved terrace, providing a good-sized area to sit out or entertain and a lovely vantage point from which to enjoy the views. The terrace is enclosed by a full length glass balustrade. A large balcony is accessed from the living area, offering the most stunning river views. There is also an electric charging point for a car.
