Spacious Village Maisonette With Garden, Woodland Views And Great Access To Countryside & Amenities

The Sellers View
We chose this home for its ideal location — a peaceful village setting with fantastic transport links to Reading and beyond by road, rail and bus. The cul-de-sac is quiet and safe, and we’ve been lucky to have such friendly and welcoming neighbours, many of whom have lived here for over 20 years. In fact, we’ve noticed more and more young families moving in recently, giving the area a lovely community feel.

The surrounding countryside is a huge part of why we’ve loved living here. We’re just moments from woodland walks, perfect for getting outdoors and enjoying nature. We regularly see birds, foxes, deer and even hedgehogs. There are also stunning canal-side walks from The Cunning Man pub in Burghfield and from Aldermaston, ideal for weekend strolls.

We’ve also found it very convenient for day-to-day life, with an excellent gp surgery, nearby pharmacy and a fantastic local vet. One of us works from home, and the second bedroom offers a great home office space thanks to the peaceful surroundings. It’s truly been a great place to live — calm, connected and full of character. We are genuinely sad to be leaving, but a change in work circumstances means it’s time to move on.

The Agents View
If you're a first time buyer on the hunt for space, light and a little bit of greenery, this maisonette ticks all the right boxes. It’s surprisingly generous in size, with large windows throughout that flood the place with natural light and give it that bright airy feel we all love. There are two proper double bedrooms, no box rooms here, so whether you're working from home, starting a family, or just want a guest room that doesn't double as a cupboard, you’re sorted. The main bedroom is especially roomy and easily fits a large bed plus all the furniture life throws at you. The kitchen’s a pleasant surprise too. It's not one of those "one appliance only" types, there’s space for both a dishwasher and a washing machine, which, let’s be honest, is a rare treat in maisonette living.

Now let’s talk about the garden, yes, a real garden. Private, peaceful and backing onto woodland, it’s the kind of spot that makes you want to sip coffee outside on a lazy Sunday. Plus, with two brick built external storage cupboards and a garden shed, there’s no excuse for clutter. And just when you thought it couldn’t get better, this maisonette has gas central heating. Not always a given in flats but a definite win for warmth and efficiency.

In short, it’s spacious, well equipped, and comes with some brilliant extras you don’t often find in apartment living. Definitely worth a look.

Landlords - Take Note

The Area View
Mortimer has a great selection of amenities including shops, pubs, a local library, and a central coffee shop where you can find everything from cake and tea to birthday cards and unique gifts. The village is known for its strong sense of community, with social groups such as walking, netball, ramblers and the Women’s Institute, plus seasonal events like mystery theatre nights and a winter wonderland.

For families, the location is very well connected educationally. There are nursery and primary schools in Mortimer, a secondary school and sixth form in nearby Burghfield, and a large nursery in Padworth. A special educational needs school is also close by in Tadley, and there are plenty of toddler groups and child-friendly activities locally.

Mortimer Station is just a five minute drive away, getting you into London in under an hour. Junction 11 of the M4 is around 12 minutes by car, offering quick access to both London and the West. Head north and you can be at The Oracle in Reading in just 15 minutes more.
