Hougham
Hougham is an unspoilt residential and agricultural village with its own church (All Saints) lying in attractive Lincolnshire countryside to the north of the A1 and convenient for both Newark and Grantham. The neighbouring village of Marston with which Hougham shares an active village hall has a local primary school and community-owned public house with a shop selling groceries and locally sourced delicacies. Long Bennington, a nearby larger village, is accessible by a modest drive over country roads. Here there are a variety of amenities including a medical centre, dining pubs and a supermarket.
The towns of Grantham and Newark offer a comprehensive range of shops and other amenities. Newark has an historic castle, traditional markets and is a centre for antiques. Grantham boasts an independent preparatory school and renowned girls' and boys' selective secondary schools. The cities of Nottingham and Lincoln are around 50 minutes away by road. There is an excellent train service from Grantham to London Kings Cross with a journey time of just over an hour and convenient cross-country services into Nottingham, Lincoln and east coast towns run from Grantham and Newark.
