Local area

For those looking for activities to enjoy outside of the development, Bourne End is in the perfect location for further travel. Regular trains operate to London Paddington via Maidenhead station, while local bus routes connect residents with nearby towns such as High Wycombe, Marlow and Maidenhead. Here you’ll find plenty of shopping opportunities, as well as a varied selection of attractions and entertainments, from theatres and historical sites, to areas of outstanding natural beauty.

In Bourne End itself you’ll find plenty of modern amenities, with the picturesque marina an ideal place to spend an afternoon. Bourne End Village, where the development is located, is in the Chilterns, close to the River Thames – making it the ideal spot for nature lovers. The centre boasts a number of great facilities without detracting from the traditional charm of the village, making it an idyllic location in which to enjoy your retirement.

What's in a name?

So named to acknowledge the literary works of local author Enid Blyton whose home was located in Bourne End for many years. McCarthy and Stone has been pleased to work with the local school, Claytons Primary School, to create an opportunity for the children to write a story in the style of Enid Blyton's Famous Five adventures. The story is to be created following a holiday this year or in previous years with their grandparents. As the largest national retirement development company, we are keen to link with schools and encourage pupils to appreciate the importance of our heritage and the benefits in achieving high standards in English literature and language. We look forward to reading the stories very shortly and announcing the winner. The winner and their family will be invited along to the grand opening of Blyton House in 2016.
