Gilesgate is conveniently located approximately one and a half mile from Durham City Centre.
Local primary schools include Gilesgate, Laurel Avenue, St Hilds and St Joseph's (Roman Catholic). Secondary education for most of Gilesgate is provided at Durham Gilesgate Sports College.
