      6a High Street, Launceston, PL15 8ER

Why move to Launceston? Set amidst the rolling green Cornish countryside, Launceston is known as the gateway to the county and sits on the Devon border. The town’s skyline is dominated by the ruins of a Norman castle that stands high on a hillside with dramatic views over Bodmin moor and Dartmoor. The castle was a strategically important building after the Norman Conquest and its green was used for executions until the 19th century. Launceston is situated between the north and south coasts, so is convenient for beaches and the Cornish countryside. The surrounding area offers leisure for all types; facilities include two golf courses – Trethorne and Launceston – and Roadford Lake Country Park where visitors can fish for trout, sail, windsurf, cycle, row, kayak and camp. Launceston has a busy pedestrianised shopping centre with plenty of big names alongside quirky independent shops. Out of town there is a Tesco, Marks & Spencer Food Hall, Argos and Pets at Home. There are plenty of places to eat out in Launceston and the Arundell Arms Hotel at Lifton, where there are also shooting and fishing rights. A town with literary connections… Once the ancient capital of Cornwall, Launceston is steeped in history and featured prominently in Daphne du Maurier’s smuggling classic, Jamaica Inn. The inn itself sits between Launceston and Bodmin and visitors can travel back 300 years to experience something of the romance, folklore and villainy associated with this historic coaching inn and the area. Great local schools, Launceston has some great schools including the ‘good’ Ofsted-rated Launceston College for children aged 11 to 18. Windmill Hill Academy is a ‘good’ primary school and the ‘outstanding’ St Stephen’s Academy is a primary school with an excellent special needs centre.

    • Millerson, Camborne
      Featured

      29 Commercial Street, Camborne, TR14 8JX

Camborne is just minutes’ drive from a number of glorious, golden north-coast beaches, renowned for great surfing. On the town’s doorstep are some of the finest scenery and heritage in all Cornwall; from bluebell-laden woods at Pendarves and Tehidy to the dramatic cliffs at Hell’s Mouth; there are the fascinating mining sites at King Edward Mine and East Pool and the mysterious, windswept Neolithic monuments at Giant’s Quoit. The town was recently voted the friendliest in the West Country and has a great community feel and relaxed Cornish way of life. Camborne has benefited from substantial investment in the last 20 years and boasts a variety of good, independent shops within the town centre, ranging from fashion shops, florists and cafés to sports shops and a cycling shop. A couple of miles out of town, there are bigger stores such as Tesco, Home Bargains and Pets at Home. The popular Friday market is a weekly highlight, with stalls offering a range of locally produced foods and gifts from baked goods to greengrocery and crafts. Camborne was built during tin mining’s heyday in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, when Cornwall was the richest mining area in the world; the period in which TV’s Poldark is set. Reminders of this glorious heritage remain with a landscape marked by iconic engine houses and mine infrastructures. Good local schools include the Ofsted-rated ‘outstanding’ Happy Days nursery in nearby Illogan and range up to Camborne Science and International Academy and Camborne Sixth Form College. Millerson is the leading estate agent on the north Cornish coast. The staff at the Camborne office will be delighted to advise you on buying or selling a home or to discuss letting your property, whatever your plans, our local team is experienced, knowledgeable and ready to help.

    • Millerson, St Austell
      Featured

      5-6 Market Street, St. Austell, PL25 4BB

Why move to St Austell? St Austell, Cornwall’s largest town, sits mid-county on the south coast. The area is home to some of Cornwall’s most recognised landmarks, including Charlestown – about a mile outside St Austell – a gem-like Georgian harbour where such delights as Poldark, Alice in Wonderland and Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed. The town’s ripe history dates back beyond the time of William Cookworthy, who can be credited with Cornwall’s thriving clay industry. The town has a good mix of independent and high street shops, offering everything from fashion to pet supplies, shoes to fancy dress. Out of town there are an Asda and a Tesco. There is an even greater variety of shopping at Truro, less than half an hours drive away. For those who love to eat out, there are Indian, Italian and traditional British restaurants alongside plenty of great pubs and coffee shops. Nearby Fowey is home to the much-loved Sam’s – a beach restaurant offering fish, cocktails and live music. St Austell and the surrounding area is a paradise for plant lovers and gardeners; from the tropical plants nurtured for the Eden Project, the mysteries and surprises to be uncovered in the Lost Gardens of Heligan to the 600-plus specimens in the National Collection of Magnolias, kept in the stunning surroundings of Caerhays Castle –enough inspiration to get your green fingers tingling! With great local schools the St Austell area has some ‘good’ Ofsted-rated schools; Fowey Primary, St Mewan Community Primary, Whitemoor Academy and Nanpean, while Bishops Branscombe C of E School has been rated ‘outstanding’. Penrice Academy is the local secondary school and this is also ‘outstanding’. St Austell is home to the main Cornwall College campus, a Further Education college with an array of courses for those aged 16 and over.
