From the 1960s onwards, Thorntons grew to become the largest Scottish-based solicitor estate agency in our operating area. In the 1980s, we became the first local solicitor estate agent to open the now-familiar high street property shop. A significant game-changing merger in 1990 transformed the estate agency landscape locally and the firm expanded, opening bustling property shops throughout Dundee and Angus. These property shops gave buyers and sellers their first experience of the one-stop shop’ approach by providing a full range of complementary estate agency and legal services. Building on these solid foundations the firm continued to grow and develop our offering for clients. In the early 1990s we expanded into Perthshire. Our most recent expansion has been into Fife in 2014 with mergers with the successful firms Murray Donald and Steel Eldridge Stewart. A number of key staff in our property team have been involved in the evolution of this highly successful operation over recent years. They have witnessed the expansion of the firm’s market share in both existing and new build property sales, particularly evident in the boom years from 2004 to 2008.
