The Isle of Bute is the most easily accessible island in this area, only 7 miles from the mainland by frequent ferry service to Wemyss Bay (35 mins) where a rail connection provides direct link to Glasgow (45mins). Both Glasgow and Prestwick Airports are about an hour’s drive from the ferry terminal. A smaller car ferry operates from the north of the island at Rhubodach to Colintraive with a 5 minute crossing to mainland Argyll. There are good educational facilities on the island with a modern joint campus in Rothesay incorporating a pre-five unit, primary and secondary departments and Argyll College. There are two further primary schools; one in Port Bannatyne and one in Rothesay. Two nurseries are available offering childcare. Private child minding is available too.
