Our Time Here

We built this house ourselves and moved in eleven years ago. Our aim was to make it a comfortable family home that we could really enjoy.

There’s loads of space and light. Downstairs is partly open plan, with the kitchen/diner as the hub of the house. The kitchen is lovely – it has a vaulted ceiling with a large window that catches the sun. We also installed a log-burning fire in the lounge to make it cosy and that’s been a great success. In the winter, the heat circulates around the whole ground floor.

We have all the family here every Christmas. We can seat 14 people around the table and we have five bedrooms, so there’s plenty of space for people to stay over. We’ve also had lots of birthday and dinner parties – it’s a lovely home for entertaining. I’ll always think of the happy family times and parties we’ve had here.

There’s a set of six big bi-folding doors which open onto the patio in the garden at the back of the house. The garden is well-stocked and has a large patio, a summer house and a lower patio nearby where we have barbecues. It’s a lovely place to be in the summer with family and friends especially when we open the bi fold doors onto the patio bringing the outside in on warm summer days.

We’re in a good area and it’s a relaxing walk into Broadstairs – and a nice walk home again. But there’s just two of us living here now. As much as we’d love to stay, it’s just too big for us now.
