Nags Head is a peaceful little hamlet in a rural valley, in the south-west of the Cotswolds. The fact this is officially recognised as being an area of outstanding natural beauty becomes immediately obvious, with lovely walks from the hamlet along country lanes and a network of public footpaths. The hamlet sees little passing traffic, but is only about 5 minutes drive from three market towns, Minchinhampton, Nailsworth or Tetbury. London is normally within 2 hours by car and there are fast and frequent train services from Kemble Station (about 9 miles) into London Paddington. Avening, the nearest village, has an excellent primary school and two pubs and the cottage is minutes away from Minchinhampton Golf Club with its two challenging 18 hole courses. Nags Head itself is within commuting distance of all the major centres of employment in the region including Swindon, Bristol, Cheltenham or Gloucester while locally Stroud is the administrative centre for the District. It has among other facilities, 4 major supermarkets, an award winning Farmers Market, multiplex cinema, boys and girls grammar schools and a mainline railway station - connections to London and Birmingham.


The property is most easily found by leaving our office in Minchinhampton via Tetbury Street, continuing past Gatcombe Park and then past the Minchinhampton Golf Club, down the hill towards Avening. At the bottom of the hill, turn left signposted towards Nags Head and Cherington. Continue into Nags Head and take the first left back up the hill. Dyers Cottage (number 51) will be recognized on the left hand side, about a third of the way up.


Dyers Cottage has a very pretty facade with an armorial panel (fse 1797) inset into the wall over the front door and is thought to be one of the oldest properties in this quaintly named hamlet. The vendors were immediately attracted by the cottage's quirky interior with rooms at different levels and the wealth of period features (exposed beams, stone mullion windows, ancient fireplaces etc). During their ownership they have concentrated on practical improvements such as upgrading the plumbing and central heating system, installing a new spacious shower room and re-decorating among other things. A stable door leads into the modern fitted kitchen which has space for a breakfast table. A short flight of steps leads thereafter to the sitting room which has an inglenook fireplace. There is a wide landing at first floor level, flanked by a double bedroom and the shower room, with a further bedroom on the second floor above. In the wing is a guest suite with its own bath/shower room. The garage/workshop, which is centrally heated, incorporates a small utility room. There is off road parking for two cars, flanked by a level lawn with access from the cottage to a terraced garden at the rear.
