Description

Character Thatched Cottage dated circa 1640.

The cottage is approximately one mile from the centre of Coggeshall, a sought after historic village. It is double glazed throughout with oil fired central heating by radiators. For an old cottage it has many large windows giving excellent light and has good ceilings height for its period.

Interior:
Dining room (13'5'x12'6\"or 4.09x3.81m) is entered via a stable door. It has exposed oak beams and a large inglenook.

Kitchen (16'5\"'x7'7” or 5x2.31m) has ample cupboards, drawers and space for appliances.

Study (11’10”x7'’7”or (3.61x2.31m) has space for two desks and features a wattle and daub panel. Door to bedroom 3 and opens to;

Sitting room (18’3”x12’3” or 5.56x3.73m) is spacious with exposed beams and spacious inglenook with multi fuel burner.

Third bedroom (8’11”x7’7” or 2.72x2.31) is on ground floor with exposed beams and country cottage double doors, can be extra reception room.

The landing features the exposed brick chimney.

Master double bedroom (12’8”x10’10” or 3.86x3.3m) has countryside views; built in wardrobe and en suite bathroom.

Second double bedroom (12’9”x10’9” or (3.89x3.28m) has en suite shower room.

Third bedroom (8’11”x7'’7” or 2.72x2.31) is on ground floor with exposed beams and country cottage double doors, can be extra reception room.

Outside: The road is part of the old Roman Road known as Stane Street that ran from Colchester to St Albans. The Norfolk reed thatched roof to the front overhangs and is supported on large pillars. This leaves a quaint covered walkway with old worn bricks. Your own cloister!

It leads to the side garden which is approximately 80' deep and is enclosed with a patio and lawn. It can be secure for dogs or children. On the other side of the cottage is a block paved patio which also serves the main entrance stable door. There is also a single garage (19 x 10ft) which is approached by a large block paved driveway.

Our view. Coggeshall in our opinion is a desirable small town normally referred to by locals as a village. This may be because the historic conservation area at the centre resembles a close knit village. In our opinion it is interesting, attractive and generally well maintained. There are good places for eating out and there is a primary (St. Peters) and a secondary school (Honywood). Kelvedon station is about 3 miles distant with services to London Liverpool station. The community bus connects the village to the station at peak times. There is access to Stansted airport to the West. The village is bypassed by the A120 which gives access Colchester to the East.
