Chelmsford is home to several highly-regarded primary and secondary schools, both state and independent, including King Edward VI Grammar, which dates back to the 16th century and is one of the country’s leading state grammar schools. It caters almost exclusively for boys, (except for the sixth form), with girls attending the nearby Chelmsford County High School for Girls. This also is judged one of the top schools in the UK and was established in 1907.
