Description
Situated in the pretty tree lined high street of Tenterden and well placed for all of the local amenities, Chancery House is an attractive Grade II listed town house dating, in part, from the 18th century with later additions.
This attractive six bedroom home benefitting from off road parking and a detached former coach house with garaging and a substantial studio above, has attractive part-walled landscaped gardens and terraces. A lovely feature is the screened outdoor swimming pool.
The versatile family accommodation amounts to over 4,800 sq ft including a useful four room cellar. Internally, period features include high ceilings, multi paned sash windows, exposed timbers and beams and painted panelled doors with brass door furniture.
The elegant interconnecting drawing and dining rooms are of very good proportions and feature open fireplaces, with French doors opening from the dining room to the west facing gardens which extend to the south and around to a lovely paved terrace to the east of the house.
The kitchen/breakfast room has an extensive range of painted cupboards, a four oven Aga and various integral appliances. There is an adjoining breakfast room with a door to the garden and access to a separate WC. Completing the ground floor is a utility room and a further WC.
A wide staircase leads from the reception hall to the first floor landing. Over the first and second floors are six attractive bedrooms, including the main bedroom with an en suite shower room and three further bath/shower rooms (one being en suite). A number of the bedrooms have period fireplaces with marble surrounds and/or built in cupboards.
Chancery House is approached via a shared private road to the east of the house leading to double wooden gates, off road parking and the former coach house with garaging. Pedestrian access is via a gate to the front with steps up to the front door.
The walled gardens extend mainly to three sides of the house. They have been beautifully landscaped and feature mimosa, maples and fig trees, with a courtyard terrace area, level lawns and rose beds. Steps lead to a well screened heated outdoor pool. Above the garaging there is an excellent 29 ft studio, which spans the length of the building.
