Situated on this highly sought-after tree-lined road which perches on the edge of both the Peak District and Sheffield City Centre, this exceptional period property has a rich history dating back to 1909. The land on which the property sits was initially owned by Gertrude Simpson, a well-known Sheffield family, whose son Vivian Simpson played football for Sheffield fc and Sheffield Wednesday, winning the Amateur Cup in 1904 (sfc). He was awarded the military cross in the First World War, leading the attack on the Cordona Trench and being the first man into the enemy trenches. He was killed in 1918 by a sniper.
The land was then sold in 1909 to Harry Wilkins (1862-1930) and this house built on the site for Harry. On his death in1930, Harry Wilkins was described in the press as a well-known Sheffield steel pioneer. Wilkins was a local preacher and pioneer of the early manufacture of stainless cutlery, managing Martin, Hall and Co, and the subsidiary Marples, Wingfield and Wilkins, an electroplate manufacturer. His company initials can still be found on historic Sheffield hallmarked items. Retaining many of the period features such its exquisite fireplaces, wood panelling, ceiling and coving detail, a maid's sluice and even the floor of the ballroom can be found running along the second floor. A truly unique residence.
