Sellers comments:

"We found this house nearly 20 years ago after months of searching for the right property. We wanted an older property with character but with space for a growing family. When we found this house we knew straight away it was right for us. The house has two characters. From the front it is imposing with a high brick wall and castellations and from the side it looks like a cosy country cottage. Throughout the house there are numerous original features from the large leaded light windows to an open fireplace. We wanted more of a cosy style of living with separate kitchen, living and dining rooms rather than an open plan layout and have found this to be flexible to our needs over the years as our family grew. Exactly what we were looking for.
The garden has been fabulous for us to enjoy socially with family and friends as it is great suntrap through-out the day. But also for children with loads of space for all their various activities from Nerf battles to camping to football to gymnastics. The garden wraps around the house allowing lots of space to spread out. According to our daughter this is the best bit of the whole house and what she will miss the most.
We have numerous excellent primary schools in the area and a wide variety of social activities for the kids in the evenings and weekends. Our kids have made full use of many of them! Something we personally found really useful were the transport links from Reading which are excellent for car and rail travel. A regular bus service runs from just around the corner making getting into Reading for travel, work or socialising really easy.
We will really miss this house and know that anything we find in the future will have a lot to live up to!"

Debbie and Andre's comments:

This impressive family home offers something different. Dating back to around 1750, it is full of history with its quirky features. In spring the home has the most fabulous wisteria covering its exterior which really is a sight to behold. The inside of the property offers a mix of period features and modern touches which creates a fantastic family home. The kitchen overlooks a large garden enabling who ever is cooking to see what is going on in the garden. The office is peaceful and a great space to work at the back of the home. There is a large dining room, perfect for a growing family or dinner parties and a cozy lounge to retire to for an evening watching television. We both love the fact that there is a good sized cellar and have been thinking of lots of wonderful ways to use that space! The landing upstairs is large enough to offer options for reading or perhaps to put a desk for homework or computing. This home is perfect for everyone to have a space to call their own and also is blessed with lots of storage options. Just when you think this home can't offer any more, there is also a huge garage! Surley Row is a conservation area and this home is ideally positioned to allow a short walk to Emmer Green Primary (outstanding) or Highdown School. It's also just a short stroll or cycle either way to Emmer Green Shops or Caversham Centre and then on into Reading. We believe this is a rare opportunity to purchase a home offering such history.
