About this property
Guide price: £950,000 - £1,000,000
Number One Agent Katie Darlow is thrilled to present this impressive 6-bedroom family home for sale in Caerphilly.
This extensive property - Hendredenny Hall is a Grade II listed building and has been described as a secluded haven, while having reasonably close access to the A470 and M4 corridor to provide great travel links, with the motorway only 10 minutes away and a further 10-15 minutes to Cardiff. The house has an expansive garden plot, an arched cellar, an original oak roof with new lining, a spiral staircase and original style windows, with the window fixtures and front doors reproduced in oak to original specifications, all protected under the cadw Grade II listing.
Hendredenny Hall in its early days was one of the principal buildings in Caerphilly and is a very gorgeous Georgian Manor House built in 1742, with a lovely historical feel for this prestigious property. It is considered that the stone used was from the outermost keep wall of Caerphilly Castle, the hewn stone being abundantly available as the outermost wall had collapsed at the time the Hall was built. The Hall was built by the geologist responsible for all the mines around the area at the time, namely Nantgarw Colliery, Bedwas Colliery, Senghenydd Colliery and the local mine. At the rear of the Hall is an old Welsh Long-house (‘Home Farm’) built around 1470, which currently houses the double garage and the stable with hay loft and hot and cold running water facility from the house. The land involved, around 97 acres at the time of building, belonged to the wife of Gilbert De Clare, Norman Lord of Caerphilly Castle. Other historical details of the area include Oliver Cromwell’s Welsh Campaign HQ nearby, Rev John Wesley and his possible visitation of the house during his time in Caerphilly.
Well maintained with the building’s original character in mind, the main electrical system is now rcd protected for safety to the latest standards. It has a new Combi Gas boiler feeding all floors with a new state-of-the-art heating controller, able to be controlled remotely and conveniently from a smartphone. To the front of this fantastic property, we have two generously sized reception rooms, both perfectly suited for relaxing, dining and entertaining guests, as well as enjoying a flood of natural light throughout. The kitchen sits on the ground floor and has been restyled and has all new facilities, and plenty of storage options. Fitted with an Electric aga range, it sports a CD ‘Hot’ tap and all drinking water is active Carbon filtered, whether boiling water or cold water. The kitchen is fitted with a large fridge freezer in its alcove to maximise kitchen space and a brand new fitted dishwasher. The kitchen has a double patio door access to the rear garden.
The original arched wine cellar can be accessed from the large hallway on the ground floor, and has been considerably renovated and made into a full cinema system with a 9-foot screen and 7.1 surround sound and high-definition projection. Being low and almost underground, it has little sound ‘print through’ to the rest of the house. The Cinema can be convector heated for all year-round use as well as radiated heat from the central heating system. Lights are dimmable from the Sky remote control. Satellite TV, Blu Ray, Internet Media and hard disk film storage are available as well with WiFi access. Sports and all Media can be viewed in 4K with full surround sound.
The middle and top floors particularly give amazing views of Caerphilly and Caerphilly Castle, and views all down the Machen valley. The middle floor landing has a seating area ideal for tea or coffee breaks, which also has these views. On the middle floor, we can find the first three bedrooms, which are all well-sized double rooms, with the principal’s quarters featuring a terrific en-suite bathroom with a bathtub, shower and airing cupboard. The principal suite and the secondary bedroom also have fitted wardrobes for great storage space, with the latter enjoying a useful wash basin and shower ingeniously fitted into the wardrobe. The third bedroom is currently staged as a marvellous home study, highlighting the versatility of this impressive property, with a communal bathroom and an airing cupboard located right outside. Ascending the spiral staircase once again, we arrive at the remaining three bedrooms, which were formerly the servants' quarters, with another two spacious double rooms and a comfortably sized single in addition.
Stepping outside, we have the extensive rear garden, which offers an abundance of outdoor space to enjoy in the sunshine, as well as being perfectly suited to welcoming a large host of guests. The garden is fully planted and designed to give many seating areas for different views, with many species of trees, shrubs, and grasses, as well as ponds for wildlife and carp with a waterfall system. The garden is designed to be reasonably low maintenance using the ‘sit-on’ mower, which features its own garage and storage unit for garden tools. The driveway is gated for privacy and can park a large host of vehicles, with at least 5-6 cars being able to be comfortably parked on this convenient space, with the garage providing further parking and/or storage as needed. The ‘lower garden has a large flat area suitable for children’s ball play, etc., with a climbing frame and swings, cargo net, slide and pole. It also has a patio/seating area and a Koi Carp pond with a fountain and a potting shed.
