Ayot St Lawrence is superbly situated surrounded by some of Hertfordshire's finest countryside, but is only about 30 miles from central London. The village, made famous by George Bernard Shaw who lived at Shaw's Corner between 1906 and 1950, has a wonderful community feel with an active church, open gardens and art shows, along with the annual ball. The town centres of Harpenden, Welwyn Garden City and St. Alban's all provide comprehensive shopping and travel facilities.
Communications in the area are excellent. The A1(M) and M1 motorways provide access on to the motorway network. From Welwyn North there are frequent trains to London (Kings Cross) and the City, taking about 35 minutes, from Harpenden to London (St Pancras) taking about 26 minutes and from St. Albans to London (St Pancras) taking about 22 minutes. Major airports are very accessible with Luton about 10 miles away, Stansted 30 miles and Heathrow 38 miles.

There is a fantastic selection of golf courses in the area including Brockett Hall with its superb Auberge du Lac restaurant, Knebworth, Mid Herts. At Gustard Wood and the challenging course at Hammonds End, Harpenden.
