About this property
*cash sale only*
A country house in a fine coastal situation overlooking Loch Fyne and requiring total refurbishment and development.
Meall Mhor House was at one time an impressive country and coastal home in a situation of great natural scenic beauty. The house is of light blue/lilac colour painted stone external finish with white painted smooth ashlar to window mullions and door facings, there are three projecting bays at the front one of which is oriel by design the other two with mock Tudor strapping, the house is slated with red detail to ridge tiles. Internally the accommodation is laid out over two levels and together with the period apartments there are historic dedicated staff living quarters and ancillary rooms.
Both internally and externally the house has fallen into disrepair, new owners (strictly subject to planning permission) will consider either renovating the original structure or possibly removing the current property and replacing it with a modern and efficient new structure.
Meall Mhor House stands privately amid some 15 acres of parkland type gardens and grounds with historic Victorian origins, semi ancient native woodlands providing a sheltered backdrop, the house is in a wonderful coastal setting with panoramic views out across Loch Fyne towards the remote land mass between Portavadie and Otter Ferry adjacent. Within the grounds is the highly picturesque Abhainn Strathainn burn which passes through to the southern side of the house with its bubbling falls and rock pools which are sided by tall ancient native trees combining to create a wonderfully bucolic scene.

As with most parts of Scotland, one is never too far from a golf course and there are challenging courses at both Lochgilphead and Tarbert. Machrihanish links golf course offers one of the top golfing destinations in the UK and attracts international golfers. Productive sea fishing from shore and boat can be had on the loch and there are trout and salmon opportunities by permit in surrounding rivers and hill lochs. There are some small shoots run locally as well as rough shooting, both of which can be arranged with local land/estate owners. The countryside is a delight in which to walk or cycle and there is no shortage of scenic routes and places of archaeological and historical interest to visit. The southern end of the Crinan Canal is nearby at Ardrishaig, providing ready access through the canal to the Hebrides and some of the most beautiful scenery in the Scottish West Highlands.
