We bought our home in 2018 as part of a terrace rich in local history — originally built in the 1880s and believed to house relatives of Edwin Rogers, founder of Maidenhead’s first steam laundromat in 1886. The laundromat ran for 130 years, and when plans to convert the terrace into flats were rejected by Maidenhead Council, we had the rare opportunity to restore one of these historic homes.

What followed was a five-to-six-year renovation journey — every room was gutted, walls were knocked through to create a spacious open-plan kitchen/living area, the bathroom fully updated, and bedrooms newly decorated with fitted wardrobes.

Alongside the transformation of our home came the unexpected joy of community. All six homes were renovated at the same time, bringing neighbours together in a way that’s hard to describe. We’ve become like family — sharing tools, ideas, and even becoming godparents.

We’ve raised our children here with excellent local schools within walking distance, scenic National Trust walks on our doorstep, and great pubs and restaurants just a short stroll away. It’s been a place of history, family, and belonging — a true home in every sense.
