This magnificent three bedroom detached home is immaculately presented and is beautifully positioned in a prestigious and exclusive spot which is steeped in history.
Located just off the Barkham Road, approximately 2 miles from Wokingham town centre and tucked away down a quiet country lane, you'll find the approach to 'Barkham Manor' both peaceful and picturesque.
A little bit of history for you....
The 'Barkham Manor House' dates back to the late 17th century and is very much a ‘grade 2 listed’ building and has certainly had its fair share of visitors throughout the years. Some of names very recognisable such as Mr John Walter II who was the founder of the ‘Times newspaper’ and it is rumoured that Mary Bell came from time to time and her son is none other than George Washington... That's right the first president of the United States of America!
In 1988, the Manor House and the outbuildings were converted into 8 residential properties (all listed) and this beautiful home was developed in the early 1990’s and is not listed.
As for the property itself....
It presents beautifully, boasting tasteful decor throughout. It is wonderfully homely with a fabulous flow which is very welcoming and comfortable. Natural light travels through to all the right places and the craftmanship is second to none! The attention to detail in the external brickwork, the cornices, the fireplaces... It's all to die for. This is very much a home that you can move straight into and enjoy right away.
Upon entry you are welcomed into a delightful hallway which is beautifully decorated with tasteful 'Laura Ashley' wallpaper. To the left you'll find a handy WC and straight in front of you is a sizeable kitchen that can be easily navigated around. It is bright/ airy and with plenty of cupboards and surface space to prepare food on. You will also find built in appliances and an area to dine in if you so wish.
The living room is beautiful, it's a charming shape with plenty of character. You will find quality carpet 'underfoot', dual aspect windows, a fireplace and French doors to the garden. The downstairs accommodation also boasts a beautiful dining room that can easily accommodate an 8-seat table giving a fabulous space to entertain in.
Upstairs you will find three double bedrooms, all of which allow for larger items of furniture and all come with built in wardrobes. The master further benefits from having a gorgeous three piece en-suite. You will also find the main bathroom that presents to a very high standard.
The garden to the rear is stunning and captures the sunlight beautifully. It is tiered with the bottom level boasting a charming patio and the first level giving you a lovely level lawn. You will find mature plants and shrubs giving the scene lots of colour and character. You will also be provided with lots of privacy with the historic brick wall that runs along the back. It dates back to the 18th century and was 'once upon a time' used for access to the manor by horses and their riders. There remains a metal tethering ring on the inside of the wall.
You will find a gate that takes you to the generously sized driveway that can accommodate two vehicles comfortably in a tandem style. You will also find a well sized garage with power.
Now for the location....
There is certainly a strong sense of community amongst the residents. It's a delightful and peaceful spot that is very welcoming. The grounds are beautifully maintained and provide a tranquil, park-like setting that is like no other! You will find expansive lawns, mature trees (some over 400 years old) and well laid pathways. You will also find a serene peaceful lake which is home to various species of wildlife and where the Heron certainly likes to play. You will also find a full-sized tennis court which has just had a 'face lift' that can be enjoyed by all residents.
The location is very handy; you'll find direct access to the 'Coombs' woods’ so there are plenty of scenic walks around if you are partial to a Sunday afternoon stroll. Wokingham town centre is within easy reach as is the train station that now boasts improved links to London via the Elizabeth line. There are several pubs within strolling distance. You will also find easy access to the motorway.
If you are looking for something that's quirky, tasteful, grand and impressive, then this is for you!
