Why We Have Loved Living Here
From the moment we first drove through the park and down the track to Windgather, it has been an absolute delight and a privilege to call this place home. Every morning brings a sense of peace, space, and beauty, waking up to the views never gets old. Windgather has been the perfect family home, with access to Lyme Park right on the doorstep while still being close to local shops and services. It’s been the ideal balance of enjoying the great outdoors, whether heading out for a walk or a bike ride straight from the front gate, without feeling completely remote.
Things We Will Miss
Now that the family have grown up, we’re downsizing, but there’s so much we’ll miss about Windgather. The garden has been our haven, from home-grown vegetables to fresh eggs from the hens, and of course those incredible views. We’ve loved relaxing in the garden for a summer barbecue with friends, or watching the kids set up camp in the garden treehouse for the night. Being able to step straight from the front door into Lyme for a walk or cycle has been such a gift. The house has always felt cosy, comfortable, and welcoming, it truly felt like home from the moment we crossed the threshold.
Agent Comments:
Windgather presents a rare opportunity to acquire a prominent home in one of Cheshire’s most enviable locations, offering exceptional, uninterrupted views across the Cheshire Plain and towards the surrounding countryside. Well known to those familiar with Lyme Park, whether on foot, horseback, or bicycle, this home occupies a truly special position within the park.
The current owners have undertaken an extensive renovation, successfully combining character features with a fresh, contemporary, eclectic aesthetic. The result is a beautifully balanced home with high-quality finishes throughout, all set within meticulously landscaped gardens.
Accommodation
Entering through a bespoke oak-framed porch, you’re welcomed into a practical space ideal for coats, boots, and outdoor gear. Beyond this, a reconfigured entrance hall with a beautiful galleried staircase and a feature window draws your eye back towards the park. This area provides access to the main living spaces, including a guest WC with a pretty unique floor, understairs storage, and a built-in dog bed.
The main living room is a standout space, offering panoramic views to the south and west. A multi-fuel burner acts as both a functional heating source and a striking focal point. Large windows flood the room with natural light, maximising the surrounding landscape.
The open-plan kitchen, living, and dining space serves as the hub of the home. Fitted with hand-built wall and base units, oak and granite worktops, a Belfast sink, and quality appliances, it is both stylish and practical. The adjoining living and dining areas feature sliding doors opening directly onto the formal rear patio. Parquet and tiled flooring throughout adds texture and interest.
A further reception room off the kitchen, currently used as a study, enjoys arguably the best views in the house, stretching westward across the open landscape. A separate utility room with external access leads to the garden and outbuildings.
First Floor
Upstairs, a galleried landing leads to four double bedrooms and the family bathroom.
The principal suite occupies the rear elevation and benefits from dual-aspect windows and a Juliet balcony. Fitted wardrobes span one wall, and the en-suite is finished in crisp white tiles with a walk-in rain shower, WC, and basin.
The second bedroom, located at the opposite end of the property, also includes fitted wardrobes and an en-suite, and enjoys similarly impressive views.
Two further double bedrooms overlook the front garden and share a four-piece family bathroom, complete with a freestanding roll-top bath, a perfect spot to unwind and take in the surrounds.
Externally
This property is set within substantial grounds, divided into usable zones. The formal patio connects directly to the rear of the house, with beautifully planted borders leading into a level lawned area to the side. A gate opens into the productive garden, featuring a greenhouse, vegetable beds, chicken coop, and various additional lawned area, perfect for a garden lover or family life. Children will particularly enjoy the hidden playhouse discreetly built into the perimeter hedging.
For adults, a private patio area houses a hot tub perfectly positioned to enjoy sweeping sunset views.
A large Indian stone driveway leads to the property’s outbuildings, which include a bike shed, a generous workshop, and a storage area. These buildings offer great potential for conversion into ancillary accommodation, subject to the necessary consents
