An inspired fusion of past and present situated in a highly regarded village
Description
Tucked away in the heart of Gloucestershire, The Gasworks is a remarkable fusion of history, craftsmanship, and contemporary design. Originally constructed in 1877 as a private acetylene gasworks serving a nearby estate, this unique property has been lovingly transformed over time. The original stone façade has been meticulously restored, preserving its timeless charm, while a striking CorTen steel extension at the rear adds a bold, modern twist, a thoughtful nod to the site’s industrial past, harmonising beautifully with the natural tones of the surrounding landscape.
Step inside the original building and you’ll find a spacious kitchen and breakfast room, complete with bespoke cabinetry, alongside a cosy sitting room warmed by a log burner. Both rooms boast vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, creating a sense of rustic grandeur. A dining room and a double bedroom with en suite are also accessed from the sitting room, offering comfort and character in equal measure.
A stunning glass hallway acts as a bridge between old and new. With seven consecutive glass doors forming an inverted bay window, it floods the space with light and opens onto a tranquil inner courtyard, perfect for morning coffee or evening gatherings.
The watch tower houses a snug and a home office, offering quiet corners for relaxation or creativity. Upstairs, the principal suite is a true showstopper, featuring a picture window that frames sweeping views of the rolling countryside. Three additional double bedrooms, each with their own en suite, provide ample space for family or guests.
At the front of the property, a self-contained home office or writing room, with its own log burner and panoramic views, offers a peaceful retreat for work or inspiration.
A sweeping gravel driveway, accessed through twin sets of wooden gates, leads to generous parking, and the beautifully landscaped gardens stretch out on either side, leading to the rear boundary where the countryside unfolds in all its glory.
