Description
Tarragon is a pretty, stone built cottage believed to date from 1895, with a modern conservatory set in a wonderful central village location. The front of the property has a traditional look, with paved path and lawns either side leading to the front door. On entering to the left is an inviting dual aspect sitting room with a wonderful fireplace with log burning stove, traditional built in bookcase and attractive wooden floor. A door leads to the south and west facing conservatory which enjoys views across the well maintained garden. The kitchen can be accessed off the main entrance hall or by double doors from the sitting room, and is fitted with stunning custom built cabinetry by local furniture makers Chippendale International School of Furniture, in solid wood. The hand built upper and lower cabinets are fitted alongside an electric range cooker, traditional style sink, freestanding dishwasher and fridge with space for a washing machine.
The first floor hosts two double bedrooms which share a modern shower room. Fabulous views can be enjoyed from the property, especially from the first floor over the village and church spire.
The garden wraps around the cottage and is mainly laid to lawn with space next to the conservatory for seating. To the rear of the house is a space for the bins. Parking for several cars alongside a good sized garden shed and wood store are adjacent to the cottage.
The surrounding countryside offers wonderful walks and local beaches: Tyninghame Beach, Binning Wood and Seacliff Beach are all within a short distance.
Location
Tarragon sits in a quiet and peaceful village location in the centre of Whitekirk – a pretty conservation village set between North Berwick and Dunbar.
The surrounding East Lothian countryside offers beautiful views to the Lammermuir Hills and is renowned for its golf courses, with Muirfield, Gullane, Luffness and North Berwick all within reach. The John Muir Country Park, a haven for wildlife, is only a short distance away and there are some wonderful walks nearby, in Binning Wood and along Tyninghame Beach as well as the popular John Muir Way. Other expansive beaches along the East Lothian coast are also easily accessible.
The village of Whitekirk benefits from its own community hall which is used for village events and gatherings as well as a bus stop offering services directly to Dunbar and North Berwick. Centrally located between the larger towns of East Linton, Dunbar and North Berwick it provides an excellent location to make use of local commuter train services, with the latter two, along with the county town of Haddington, also offering supermarkets, high street shops, banks, professional services, restaurants, pubs and cafés. There are also good local nursery, primary and secondary schools in the area.
