A classic coastal cottage.
Description
Goldfinch Cottage is the ideal coastal bolthole, one that can be ready at your whim to retreat to where coastal paths are on your doorstep, leading off to pubs and restaurants or simply to peace, quiet and clear skies. Given the scale of the cottage, it is also well suited to the holiday let market sector with the highest occupancy rate.
Set within a row of traditional cottages with a south facing garden, and formerly part of the Holkham Estate, Goldfinch Cottage is presented in good order having been fully renovated within the last decade, with further updates since. All items from re-wiring to new windows were carried out.
The entirety of the ground floor is a comfortable and light open plan space, with fitted kitchen, tiled floors for practicality and a woodburner for cosiness. Stairs lead up to the first floor, with a charming double bedroom with exposed painted floor boards, and a modern
bath/shower room. There are views from the first floor with glimpses of the coastline and across the marshes.
To the south of the house is an enclosed garden, gravelled for ease of maintenance and dotted with ornamental grasses and shrubs, with a paved path running through. Immediately adjoining the house is a sitting/dining area, making the most of the south to west aspect and a lovely spot to sit and listen to the bird life that surrounds the village. At the far end of the garden are two allocated parking spaces.
Location
The quiet coastal village of Burnham Norton is one of the most unspoilt and sought after villages along the famous North Norfolk coast, and the smallest of all the ‘Burnhams’. The coastal path is a short walk from the house which leads to walks across the marshes and long sandy beaches. It also leads to neighbouring villages such as Burnham Overy Staithe with The Hero public house, and excellent sailing from the harbour, and in land to Burnham Market.
The latter has been at the forefront of lifestyle living in North Norfolk, often setting the tone for the rest of the coastline. It has evolved throughout the years, maintaining its position as the destination village of the area.
There is something for all occasions. Grabbing a coffee from the Tuscan Farm Shop, as well as being tempted by something delicious, a theme of the village which also hosts the Humble Pie Deli and Gurneys Fish shop. It’s a competitive restaurant scene, with the bar set by the award winning Socius, pre-book to avoid disappointment, and NoTwenty9 which has a real energy to it whether its cocktails on a Friday evening, music on a Saturday night or a relaxed Sunday lunch. The Hoste Arms has been a mainstay of the village.
Boutique shops include Anna’s, The Hat Shop, Aurina and Gun Hill for all things stylish and practical, there are art galleries, interior shops, cafes and the well being boutique, Aura 37. There is a village stores, petrol station, gp surgery and playing field with tennis club with hard courts.
There is excellent sailing along the coastline, renowned bird watching, the Royal West Norfolk Golf Club, and a plethora of pubs, restaurants, fish shops, boutique shops.
