Cobham is a village and civil parish in the borough of Gravesham in Kent. The village is located 6 miles south-east of Gravesend, and just south of Watling Street. Cobham is surrounded by open fields, woodland and orchards and the village is convenient for combining a visit to Jeskyns’ Community Woodland, Shorne Woods Country Park, Cobham Park or Cobhall Hall, which are all nearby.
Charles Dickens, the renowned novelist, delighted himself in Cobham and its environment. He loved to walk from his home in Gads Hill, Higham and through to Cobham Park, to work on his story lines for his novels. Dickens also immortalised to Leather Bottle Inn in The Pickwick Papers, as he regularly frequented this establishment, and the Inn, still today, houses a fine collection of Dickensian memorabilia.
The National Trust have several properties that lie within the parish of Cobham including Owletts, The Yeoman’s House and the Darnley Mausoleum.
