About this property
Overlooking a stretch of the Regent's Canal, this attentively designed two-bedroom apartment sits elevated on the fourth floor of Imperial Wharf. At its far end, a long, private balcony is ideal for watching the canal boats bob along the water below. Broadway Market, London Fields, Victoria Park are a short walk away, along with Cambridge Heath Overground and Bethnal Green Underground stations.
The Tour
Imperial Wharf is on Darwen Place, a quiet no-through road parallel to the Regent’s Canal. The apartment sits on the fourth floor and is reached via lift or stairs.
The front door of the apartment opens to a hallway, finished with 'Great White' and a wash of 'Rangwali', both by Farrow and Ball. Natural light filters through the panes of a stained-glass transom window, casting jewel colours that preempt the apartment’s vibrant colour palette. Generous built-in storage provides space for shoes and coats.
The kitchen, living and dining room extends at the far end. On one side, L-shaped grey kitchen cabinets contain an integrated double oven, four-ring electric hob, and a stainless-steel sink. Built-in shelves are ideal for a cookbook collection.
The remainder of the room has plenty of room for dining and sitting areas. The walls here have been painted in 'Pale Powder' by Farrow and Ball, a colour brought to life by the light from glazed doors on two sides. A tall eucalyptus tree makes for a green backdrop year-round, and there are far-reaching views over the canal.
The apartment has two double bedrooms. The double-aspect primary room is to the rear, with walls painted in 'Oval Room Blue'. The bedroom next door has a bank of built-in wardrobes and drawers.
Both rooms are served by a beautifully finished bathroom with Bert and May floor tiles and a clawfoot bathtub.
Outdoor Space
A north-east facing balcony opens from the apartment’s main living space. Its atmospheric backdrop makes for a brilliant place to sit and/or arrange potted plants.
Between Imperial Wharf and its mirror image, Alexandra Wharf, there is a communal paved terrace planted with a collection of established trees, shrubs, and flowers. From here, steps lead to canal-side decking, where benches are positioned underneath the trees.
The Area
Imperial Wharf sits on the Regent's Canal between Broadway Market and Victoria Park, both 10 minutes on foot in either direction. London Fields Lido lies just beyond Broadway Market and is a popular, heated year-round swimming spot. Haggerston Park is also close.
There are plenty of wonderful restaurants nearby, from Bistrotheque and Sune to Brawn.
The wider area is home to many design and architecture practices as well as great small commercial galleries, including Maureen Paley, Modern Art, and Herald St. The V&A Museum of Childhood is close by, as is York Hall Leisure Centre. Clare de Rouen is an excellent local bookshop.
Columbia Road, with its weekly flower market and independent shops and cafés, is also close. Neighbouring Hackney Road is also home to an increasing number of popular cafés, bars and restaurants, notably Morito, Sager + Wilde, The Marksman and Ozone Coffee.
Cambridge Heath Station is four minutes away on foot and provides Overground lines to Liverpool Street. Bethnal Green station (Central line) is a 12-minute walk from the apartment, and there are good bus links nearby. The City can be reached via the Regent's Canal Towpath.
