Babbacombe Hall & 17 Manor Road together form an impressive detached residence set in the heart of St Marychurch, thoughtfully arranged as a substantial holiday villa with an adjoining owners’ wing. Our clients have created not only a beautiful home and thriving business, but an enviable lifestyle in one of Torquay’s most desirable enclaves. The property appeals to discerning guests seeking luxury holiday accommodation with generous space for family and friends. The main villa offers eight elegant en suite letting rooms, each designed for comfort and style, alongside spacious social and leisure areas that encourage relaxation and togetherness. The private owners’ wing provides comfort and refinement, allowing proprietors to enjoy the same sense of serenity and quality as their guests. Outside, the beautifully landscaped, low-maintenance gardens, ample parking, garage, and a workshop – all enhance both practicality and pleasure.
Just a short stroll away lies the picturesque Babbacombe Downs, offering breathtaking sea views and access to the iconic Cliff Railway, linking to the charming beaches of Oddicombe and Babbacombe below. For moments of tranquillity, Tessier Gardens adjoins the property which is a stunning adults only park, while nearby Cary Park provides tennis courts, a bowls club, and dedicated spaces for children and dogs. The village ambience and excellent amenities of St Marychurch are a short saunter, with Torquay Golf Club virtually a tee shot beyond.
Owners' Insight
"We took over the Babbacombe Hall Hotel in 2017, and set about comprehensively refurbishing and redesigning the business to suit our lifestyle and the local holiday demand. The Babbacombe Hall now provides us with a beautiful home, and a successful holiday let business with eight en suite bedrooms. We have been advised that we could substantially increase turnover if we extended our season and accepted shorter breaks, however we prefer to take 7/14 night bookings only.
We are biased, but the location is exceptional. The beautiful Tessier Gardens adjoins the stone wall boundary of our private garden, and we have everything you could need within a matter of a few minutes walk. From butcher to baker, grocer to golf club, doctors to dentist, and beautiful beaches to Babbacombe Downs. We will miss Babbacombe Hall immeasurably, but due to ill health, we need to downsize and spend more time with our family."
Step Inside The Main Villa
Stepping inside the main house you enter the welcoming reception hall. The principal reception areas are open plan, affording an extensive dining, entertainment, and games areas which link to the kitchen with comprehensive shaker design units in Ash effect and brushed steel handles. The kitchen and main room overlook the garden, and enjoy direct access from the kitchen. A comfortable sitting room provides a more relaxing space, and links to a versatile ground floor bedroom suite. The ornate staircase with carved newel post and spindles rises from the hall to seven en suite bedrooms, and one of the primary bedrooms opens to a private extensive balcony.
Owners Wing
A lockable connecting door from the reception hall of the villa links the owners wing, which presents a beautiful home in its own right. The versatile accommodation presents a generous sitting/dining room with views over the private walled courtyard, and also access to the main garden if required. The kitchen/dining room is a striking space with walk-in pantry, French doors linking the private walled garden, and further access toward the private drive and garage. The ground floor is completed by an internal home office, utility/laundry, large store, and ground floor bedroom with neighbouring shower room. To the first floor are two bedroom suites and one with a lounge, walk-in wardrobe, and access to an extensive roof terrace.
Step Outside
Babbacombe Hall boasts a large car park to the approach of the main villa, enabling ample space for guests, their extended families and friends. A secondary drive and garage/workshop serve the owners wing. The main garden has been planned for ease of maintenance with generous paved terrace housing brick built bench seating and extended table, barbecue area, and sheltered hot tub. The terrace leads on to a level lawn, with the gardens surrounded by mature greenery and even space for some French boules. The owners wing enjoys a courtyard garden sheltered by natural stone walling, and a covered seating area. The courtyard is complemented by a first floor terrace with views toward the mature trees of Tessier Gardens. The main house benefits from a large balcony, and the owners wing an extensive roof terrace.
