Description
School House is a charming period residence, rich in character and history. Dating back to 1872 the village school ceased in 1965, and now stands as a fine example of Victorian architecture, combining original features with the comfort and flexibility of a family home.
Constructed in striking red brick. The house embodies the elegance of Victorian design, with decorative brickwork, mullioned windows, and a steeply pitched slate roof (re-roofed in 1995) - all hallmarks of the period. On the ground floor, a welcoming library/home office reflects the homes heritage. Formally the schools principle office, it features a vaulted wooden ceiling, built in bookcase, and a cosy fireplace. The living room is bright and comfortable, with an open fireplace, large windows and French doors that fully open into the dining room - perfect for entertaining.
The dining room is positioned next to the kitchen with an impressive staircase. The kitchen and utility room are to the rear with numerous base and wall mounted units and work surfaces. A further reception room, accessed from the kitchen or the original front external school door, provides flexibility and again features a cosy fireplace.
Upstairs, the landing continues the period charm with high arched ceiling. The principle bedroom is generous in size with a feature beam. One of the bedrooms is currently used as a study. The bathroom is centrally positioned off the landing.
Outside, the property features a charming terrace area and connects the main house to a useful outbuilding ideal for a workshop/garden room. A traditional sunken well is positioned beside the house emphasising the property's historic charm.
The surrounding gardens are well kept and easy to maintain with an expanse of neat lawn that offers ample space. Along with some mature fruit trees and stunning views over the neighbouring countryside.
Location
School House occupies a wonderful position at the end of a drive in the small village of Offton and has far reaching views over the attractive undulating countryside. The market towns of Stowmarket, Bury St Edmunds and Colchester offer excellent shopping, educational and recreational facilities.
